Dear Friends,

With the holidays fast approaching, we have a lot to be thankful for. 2008-09 is a very busy season for The rUDE mECHANICALS, and we’re starting it off with our ALL rUDE MONDAYS Festival of staged readings. These are 6 plays we’re very excited about, and we cordially invite you to share in the fun. Some are brand new. Others haven’t been heard in a while, and we’re taking a fresh look. All readings start at 7:30 pm in the Arthur Seelen Theatre, underneath the Drama Book Shop in midtown Manhattan. Free beer, wine, and water will be on hand if you get thirsty.

And did we mention the whole evening is FREE?

Monday, Nov. 17
First Day of School, by Billy Aronson
directed by Richard Aven
What exactly are the parents up to when the kids go off to school? An outrageous comedy about sex and marriage – and more sex.

Monday, Nov. 24
Dead Line, by Shawn Nacol
directed by Ian Morgan
Two animators at Doodle Ranch Studios sneak in to work over the holidays and discover romance, ruin and the rough sketch of a relationship. A cataclysmic comedy about the dangers of selling a story, and the power of art to change the world.

Monday, Dec. 1
Luther, by Ethan Lipton
directed by Patrick McNulty
Walter and Marjorie have adopted an abandoned veteran of war. Sadly, that was the last good decision they made. A black comedy about the future where everything is possible and nothing is quite the same.

Monday, Dec. 8
And Baby Makes Seven, by Paula Vogel
directed by Marc Stuart Weitz
A wacky comedy about a nuclear family so non-traditional, half of it is make-believe!

Monday, Dec. 15
Seaguts, written and directed by Michael Aronov
This amped-up take on The Seagull is an adaptation of Chekhov’s classic like you’ve never heard - deep, dark, dirty and hilarious. (And by someone who actually knows Russian!)

Monday, Dec. 22
TBD, by TBA
directed by Hal Brooks
TBD is not the name of a post-modern masterpiece. We just don’t know which play we’re reading yet. You'll know as soon as we do.

WHEN: 7:30 pm
WHERE: Arthur Seelen Theater, underneath The Drama Book Shop
250 West 40th Street
NY, NY 10018

Hope to see you there!
