A Mouthful of Birds
By Caryl Churchill & David Lan
Directed by Rebecca Taylor
Performed in Rotating Repertory with The Bacchae 2.1

Obie-award winning British playwright Caryl Churchill teamed up with South African playwright David Lan to create this stunning dance-theater piece about those days when we're "possessed." Weaving together seven stories of contemporary London life with moments of The Bacchae told exclusively through dance, A Mouthful of Birds shows us how vulnerable we still are to the Dionysian influence. The god of wine and mirth gets under each character's cardigan, driving women to telekinesis, men into the arms of pigs, and everybody into fits of primal dance. Touching, funny, and always bizarre, A Mouthful of Birds is directed by Rebecca Taylor, who The New York Times says has "a sure touch for both comedy and fierce drama."
